On cosmic events

It’s a mystery to me how some people can experience an event like a full solar eclipse and still believe that the universe was an accident.

Where was God in the Solar Eclipse

when momentary darkness

swept over our heads, stopping

the earth’s rotation

to give us all a naked look at the face of eternity?

Who’s to say the moon was not God’s hand

passing slowly,

untraceably,

between us and the light?

Snap out of it.

We daydream of space and stare, unrecognizing,

like seeing but not seeing

that thing you lost long ago,

right in front of you.

We wait for God to send signs and wonders,

mistaking His voice

for a glimpse of totality.
